Torabhaig is one of the newest distilleries on the
Isle of Skye.
During
the course of the restoration of the building, the
remnants of a mill were uncovered, although the
waterwheel was long gone; several millstones were
also found.
A new wheel was constructed on an
iron frame of a similar age, and reinstated in the
same location using the original padstones to carry
the axle.
The wheel can be driven by the cooling water from
the stills – so is a ‘still’ waterwheel!
