Hampshire Mills Summer Events Diary

Calbourne Watermill: enjoy a home cooked meal when you go to buy from their range of flour after watching the miller work the mill to produce it – and don’t forget to check out this summer’s list of events as well as their eco-holiday lettings details on www.calbournewatermill.co.uk/

City Mill Winchester: Adding to the milling demos held every Wednesday and weekends, are  Seasonal Baking  Demos; to suit all tastes from chocolate indulgence, special treats for Father’s Day, French and Italian Breads through to Cream Teas. Then buy the flour and have-a-go at home.  Check out all the details.  

Eling Tide Mill is part of the Eling Experience so get your walking togs on and enjoy the village, café, museum and mill.  Check for mill opening times:  www.elingtidemill.org.uk/

NGS Garden Openings at Hampshire Mills :

Bere Mill  nr Whitchurch. RG28 7NH. Opening dates and times:  Sat 15, Sun 16 June; Sun 15 Sept (1.30-5). Admission: Adult £5, child free (share to Smile Train) Contact: Rupert & Elizabeth Nabarro Tel: 01256 892210.  

This small, historic mill  is where Henri de Portal first made paper for the Bank of England. Renowned for its turbine once powering machinery at Laverstoke Mill, the mill sits silent amid beautifully landscaped grounds beside the River Test; with carriers and a large lake next to a restored SSSI water meadow, grazed by Welsh Mountain sheep, lambs and Belted Galloway cattle. Riverside walks, species tulips, Japanese prunus, peonies, wisteria collection, roses, bog garden at its best in autumn. Double perennial beds and swamp cypress avenue. Eastern influence including Japanese Tea House, many different riverside irises and unique bridges.

Dipley Mill, Dipley Road, nr, Hartley Wintney. RG27 8JP. Opening dates and times:Suns 26 May (1-5); 23 June; 21 July (1-5.30); 22 Sept (1-4) Adult: £5, child free. Contact: Miss Rose McMonigall  Tel: 07885 745904 or rose@rosemcm.demon.co.uk  featuring the Rust garden, the pill-box grotto and the ornamental courtyard plus wild meadows.

 

Donnington Mill House, Oxford Road, Donnington nr Newbury. RG14 2JD. Open Sun 30 June 2-6pm. Adults £3.50 child free (proceeds to charity). Contact:  Jane & Ashok Vaidya   Exclusive for HMG members there will be a chance to see the New American Turbine under a slow restoration!  Unique chance to view! As well as home made cakes and teas there will be a plant sale and an Art Exhibition .  Link to NGS website.

  Refreshments are available at all three Gardens to help you drink in the beauty of your surroundings and reflect upon the history that has passed through them.
